La Croisette, Cannes' world-renowned waterfront boulevard, is set to undergo a significant transformation led by Snøhetta in collaboration with local partner Atelier d’Urbanité Roland Castro and engineering firm WSP. The project, aptly named "Spotlight," aims to restore the prestige and elegance of this historic promenade while introducing modern amenities and green spaces. Drawing inspiration from Art Deco and the palaces of Cannes, the proposal emphasizes accessibility and environmental sustainability, with an ambitious plan to increase biodiversity and green mobility. The new design will feature custom urban furniture, lighting, and shading, enhancing comfort and safety for both residents and visitors alike.
The 2.6 km-long boulevard, which hosts the International Film Festival every May, will see a return to its former glory, with enhanced public spaces, including plazas, beach accesses, and new water features. The project also introduces a "new urban red carpet" that will link the Palais des Festivals to the Cap de la Croisette, reflecting the vibrant culture and natural beauty of Cannes. This extensive revitalization effort, scheduled to be completed by 2028, will not only celebrate the boulevard's rich history but also ensure it remains a thriving, sustainable, and iconic destination for future generations.
