In the vibrant area between San Giovanni and Pigneto in Rome, 02A Studio's latest project, Casa Polly, beautifully blends two distinct styles: brutalism and pop-art. The home, now inhabited by Martina Pinto and Alessandro Poggi, was once owned by designer Valerio Ciampicacigli, who originally designed the space. Today, this apartment exemplifies a harmonious dialogue between bold, raw materials and playful design elements.
The apartment spans 120 square meters and features a combination of softened brutalism and cheerful pop aesthetics, reflecting the personality and style of its current owners while maintaining the essence of its previous designer. The living area remains largely untouched, while the sleeping areas were re-imagined to fit the family’s evolving needs, including a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, a child’s room for their daughter Polly, and a laundry area.
A key feature of the renovation is the integration of geometric patterns and pastel tones, which contrast with the raw concrete and glossy finishes throughout the apartment. The kitchen showcases unique D-tiles, while a raw concrete pillar serves as a focal point in the living space. The dining room is elevated on a wooden platform, and the vintage terrazzo flooring from the '60s creates a rich textural contrast with the modern updates.
The master bedroom embraces soft, cartoon-like aesthetics, with rounded edges, plush furnishings, and a soothing blue carpet. The en-suite bathroom uses pastel green and pink tones, with a wavy pastel portal framing the space. This balance of functional beauty and design-driven warmth showcases how contrasts can shape a unique and harmonious living environment, where brutalist minimalism meets colorful pop decor.
