INTERIOR DESIGN

Questrade, Canada’s largest independent online brokerage, sought to update its headquarters in Toronto to better accommodate evolving employee needs and reflect its brand identity. The redesign, led by HOK, goes beyond conventional office layouts, transforming underutilized spaces into vibrant, functional areas that align with the company’s values. One of the standout features of the new office is the ground-floor reception area, which was reimagined as a welcoming and interactive space for both clients and employees. Unlike traditional corporate environments, this space includes a coffee bar, private meeting rooms, and townhall spaces that encourage dynamic interactions away from the typical office setting.
Upstairs, the office is divided into themed floors that celebrate Canada's natural beauty. Drawing inspiration from the Trans Canada Trail, each floor represents a different ecosystem, from the Lake and Forest floors to the Summit and Stellar levels. These environments are brought to life through nature-inspired graphics, wayfinding, and the use of sustainable materials that evoke the essence of Canada’s diverse landscapes. Employees can move between spaces tailored for quiet work, collaboration, or informal meetings in lounges, game rooms, and huddle rooms.
The design also emphasizes employee well-being and inclusivity. Kosher kitchens, sit/stand desks, and prayer/wellness rooms are integrated into the layout, alongside spaces that foster creativity and teamwork. The office’s flexibility allows employees to choose how they work, whether in quiet zones or collaborative areas. Staff were involved in the design process, contributing ideas for room names and artwork, which helped bring a personal touch to the workplace.
As part of Questrade's ongoing expansion, the new office design has set a benchmark for how workspaces can enhance both employee productivity and client engagement. This innovative transformation serves as a prime example of how businesses can create meaningful, purpose-driven environments that support a healthy work-life balance.
